Synopsis

Translation: During the 2013 Spring Festival, artist Kong Delin, independent filmmaker Uncle Ghost, and designer Yang Tao initiated the "Qingming Project" at the abandoned 5102 military factory in Laixi Village, Ninghua County. This project aimed to revitalize traditional culture and crafts through documentaries, art creations, and direct interventions. The "Qingming Project" combines painting, objects, installations, and video, retaining the unique characteristics of each art form while connecting them through a common theme. It is an experimental and multidimensional exhibition. However, from the beginning, it was not a meticulously planned and orderly exhibition. Uncle Ghost documented the preparation process of the "Qingming Project" through video, capturing its evolution from phases such as "Object Search," "Sour Tea," "Graffiti," "Moss Planting," "Dust Sweeping," "Construction," and "Projection." The "Rural Study of Ninghua Hakka: Origins, Customs, and Crafts" exhibition invites Kong Delin, Uncle Ghost, and Yang Tao to prepare the "Qingming Project" again. This exhibition is set up in the Ning Family Courtyard, initiating another "Retracing Our Roots" creation. Using their artistic expertise, they explore and redefine the relationship between themselves and their hometown from the dimensions of "time," "space," and "people." The "Qingming Project" also serves as an important supplement to the local narrative of Ninghua. This film is one of the video documents of the "Qingming Project 2013-2024" retrospective exhibition.
