Director biography

Jimmy Lo is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, film educator and film festival curator/programmer from Hong Kong, now based in Canada. With over 10 years experience with a rich portfolio of films recognized globally by international film festivals, his debut feature documentary film Stories of Pang Jai (2024) won Best Feature Film and Best Cinematography for Feature Film at Vancouver Asian Film Festival 2024 and was nominated for the Human Rights Award at South Taiwan Film Festival. The film was screened internationally, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Italy, Sweden, the UK, the US and Canada. Jimmy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design, Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications at MacEwan University. He is also a Visiting Faculty of the MALCS at the University of Hong Kong. He taught courses in Film/Video Production and Documentary Studies at both the University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Baptist University. From 2024, Jimmy has been active in curating film festivals, including UBC-based Asian Independent Cinema Showcase. Jimmy holds an MFA in Film Production from the University of British Columbia.
